We met with the students who were waiting for us in the computer room. It was also nice to see that there was a GTP poster on the wall. They shared their experience, challenges, asked questions about their possible future involvement past grade 12 and what they would like to see for future circles.Their main challenge in the September LC is that the time line conflicts with their exams so they have not been able to enjoy the circle activities in the same way as the February circles.Students also suggested having a variety of themes that revolve around political issues which are also relevant to youth. They gave the examples of the elections in their countries, they were eager to discuss democracy principles for example and compare elections processes in different countries. Along the conversation, they said that they would like to have a place to have their reflections and thoughts (sort of a blog) so perhaps this can be part of their GTP country /school page. |

View over Lusaka’s main street from Protea hotel. |
Second School visit: we went to the David Kaunda School and met with the teacher Mr. L. Tembo in charge of the circle and the students. |
The students engage in the circle as an after school activity so it is their choice to be there. They meet once a week and were given the choice to join the gender/equality LC. The main thing they gain from the circle work is the cross cultural interaction and understanding the perspective of others regarding their own issues. They learnt a lot from it but think that the circle would benefit with more communication between students because the circle requires more formal message sent but often they would like to raise issues, understand the views of others in a more informal way. |

Saturday 15th of November 2008 |
We left at 08:00 pm to Siavonga. The main road is called Cairo Road as it mentioned to connect Cairo to Cap Town. Many huge trucks on their way from Zambia, via Zimbabwe to South Africa, slowed the traffic down, bicycles were packed with big bags of charcoal . |

The surroundings soon became more rural and the small villages and Baobab trees almost seemed to bescattered on the country side. |

After 3 hours driving we arrive at Lake Kariba Inns, the possible second location for the 2009 JKF. We stayed one night and did some good research on what this beautiful place could contribute to a successful 2009 JKF. |

The best of both worlds…Once home from Zambia, the calls, emails, work and training brought me back in an other world in a few hours. Today, 4 days after arrival, Saturday morning November 22nd, I peeked outside and it was all white, serene and so beautiful. I realised it’s the best of two worlds, so far and so united… time for my last Malaria pil :-) |
